TRAFFIC SAFETY

The Traffic Safety Section mission is to promote highway safety for motorists, pedestrians, and cyclists within the Township. These services are provided through three general areas of emphasis - Education, Engineering, and Enforcement. The section is under the command of Sgt. Terry Ferree, a fourteen year veteran of the agency.

Education

Education involves a variety of programs supporting community and individual safety interests such as bicycle safety programs, seat-belt use program, child safety seat programs, maintaining and providing various traffic safety literature.

Engineering

Engineering includes conducting Traffic and Engineering Studies required under Pennsylvania Title 67 prior to the enactment of any traffic related ordinance restriction. Notification of areas of attention evolve primarily through citizen complaints, officer information, and accident analysis.

Enforcement

Enforcement involves a proactive approach to enforcing the traffic laws of the Commonwealth on Township roadways. This includes commercial vehicle enforcement, speed enforcement, driving under the influence of alcohol enforcement, and other violations identified through traffic accident and enforcement analysis as those which may potentially cause accidents.

Through this three prong approach to traffic safety the TS Section continues to work towards reducing both accidents and injuries while enhancing the safety of all persons traveling on roadways within the Township.
