As you may know the Pennsylvania State Police is tasked with collecting and distributing Uniform Crime Report (UCR) data for the Commonwealth, and to the Federal Bureau of Investigation. In March 2001, we launched a web-based system, the Pennsylvania Uniform Crime Reporting System (PAUCRS), which allows direct input and queries of crime statistics by Commonwealth jurisdictions.
May 20, 2004, the Pennsylvania State Police initiated a new phase in PAUCRS service designed to increase awareness regarding crime in Pennsylvania. Our new "Are You Aware?" program builds upon the PAUCRS platform to provide an innovative tool to assist community members researching crime statistics.
As such, "Are You Aware?" serves as a tool for evaluating and supporting local crime prevention efforts; as an aide to police departments in support of staffing levels; and researchers in applying for grants or educational projects.
As a result of these efforts anyone with access to the Internet will now be able to quickly and easily obtain meaningful local crime information in a user friendly format that is available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week to anyone with internet access.
