COMMUNICATIONS

The Township of Derry Police Department maintains a 24 hour a day Communication Center to serve the public. In addition, 9-1-1 service is provided to Township of Derry residents through the Dauphin County Emergency Management Agency Communication Center.

The Township Communication Center employes five full time and two part time Communication Specialists. The Communication Center is open 24 hours a day 365 days a year to handle calls for assistance and provide support for the Police Department.

While the Township Communication Center handles dispatching services for the Police Department, The Dauphin County Emergency Management Agency Communication Center handles emergency Fire and Ambulance dispatching for the Township of Derry.

You can make contact with the Township of Derry Police Department and the Communication Center by telephone at 717-534-2200. Contact can also be made with the Police Department at our office located at 620 Clearwater Road, Hershey, Pa. The Dauphin County Emergency Management Agency Communication Center can be reached by telephone at 717-558-6900 for non-emergencies. Callers needing emergency assistance for Police, Fire and Ambulance should dial 9-1-1.

When calling either Communication Center for assistance, be prepared to provide the Communication Specialist with your name, address and telephone number. This information will assist us if we need to make additional contact with you. In addition, it's important to remember the five W's of dispatching and provide them to the Communication Specialist.

Where - Where is the incident taking place?

What - What is occuring?

When - When did the incident occur, is it occuring now?

Who - This is who is involved in the incident, if known.

Why - Do you know why the incident happened.

Stay calm when calling for assistance and follow the Communication Specialists instructions. Many times, if the incident is in progress they may ask you to stay on the telephone until Police units arrive. This is for your safety.
